Guinness Pro 12 Season Betting Preview
It’s nearly time for Guinness Pro12 to kick off once again for the winter with the sponsor in place for a further 4 years as announced on launch day
The first round of matches takes place from Friday 2nd September and final will be held in Dublin on May 27th 2017
It’s amazing to think that we are underway once again so soon after Connacht won the title against Leinster but we at OLBG Ireland can not wait for the action to begin
If last season is anything to go by, with a record number of tries and the fewest penalties in any of the top leagues, it should be fantastic attacking action on display from the get go.
Connacht will begin the defence of their title on Saturday 3rd at home to Glasgow Warriors but we will get a taste of the action earlier as on Friday, Leinster, Ospreys and Ulster all get things underway
You can watch
- Leinster v Benneton Treviso at 7.35 on TG4-
- Ospreys v Zebre on BBC2 Wales
- Ulster v Newport Gwent Dragons on BBC 2 Ireland
Connacht will play Glasgow on Sky Sports 1 at 5.15 on Saturday
We’ve been taking a look at the OptaStats for the Pro12 here
Top try scorers last season were Craig Gilroy for Ulster and Matt Healy for Connacht with 10 each, whilst the top points scorer was Rhys Patchell for the Scarletts with 174
Guinness Pro 12 Grand Final Winner
Leinster head the market at 2.75 with Bet365 whilst you can get 3.00 with the same firm for the regular season win – Glasgow (3.50), Ulster (6.00) and Scarlets (8.00) follow them at the head of the market.
If you fancy Connacht to regain the title, you’ll be looking at buying odds of around 12/1 but should also be aware they will be starting the season with a much depleted and injury ravaged squad to that which won last season
Oh and just the small matter of Robbie Henshaws defection to Leinster!! Although Southa African international Marnitz Boshoff has arrived at the Sportsgrounds.
As much as the Welsh would like to stop being the ‘fodder’ on the Pro12 League it will take more than a few months to sort out their problems. None of the Welsh sides made it to the play-offs last season and whilst Zebre are looking like certainties for bottom spot (1.40), they may fight it out with Treviso (3.00), it is then Newport and Cardiff after them in the “to finish bottom” betting market
