League Of Ireland Week One Betting Preview

It's back! The league that many of its followers proclaim to be the #GreatestLeagueInTheWorld when talking about it on Twitter. A little tongue in cheek perhaps but there's much to love about our own football league on these shores. The opening night of the Premier Divsion sees a Dublin derby between great rivals Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers. Champions Cork City travel to Inchicore to face St Pats and Dundalk play host to Bray Wanderers. Newly promoted Waterford will face a stiff opening day task wit the arrival of Derry City to the south-east.

Friday's Recommended Bets

Of course it's always hard to predict what going to happen on the opening night of the season but if we start off with the Dublin derby, we see that 4 out of the last 6 games between the two has seen both teams scoring. Rovers won the first three encounters between the two in the league and cup last season but Bohs restored some pride by winning away in Tallaght in July.

Bohs managed to keep hold of top striker Dinny Corcoran and he'll once again be vital to how their season unfolds. They lost Akinade to Waterford so they'll need someone else to step up and chip in with the goals. Rovers signed Joey O'Brien from West Ham which could be a key signing for them. He can provide experince and calmness to a sometimes disjointed defence from last season.

Dundalk will be hoping to claim back the title after finishing second last season. They lost David McMillan and Patrick McEleney and have brought in a host of new faces so it remains to be seen how they'll adapt this season. Bray started the season brilliantly last year but fell away and a lot of that came down to off-field problems. They scored a lot of goals but conceded far too many. Will that continue this season?

St Pats found themselves in a relegation battle last season and will be looking to avoid that this time round. Manager Liam Buckley is confident his side can push for a European place this season. Cork struggled for goals after the departure of Seání Maguire to Preston last season but started the season off in style beating Dundalk 4-2 in the Presidents Cup last week. New signings Graham Cummins & Barry McNamee got on the scoresheet for the champions and it certainly sent out a message to the rest of the league that they mean business again this season.

Waterford have made several signings including the promising Akinade from Bohs which could be a shrewd move as they look to get the goals to get them off to a good start in the top division. Derry are the visitors with a wealth of experience at this level and will fancy themselves to pick up a win at the RSC.
